Apartment In Neutral Greys
One of the hardest parts of designing a home by yourself is figuring out how to best utilize a large open space. Especially when you have free-standing columns in random places and a variety of uses need to find place among them.
Luckily this young family reached out for help and together we created a cozy, yet functional apartment. We managed to use the freestanding columns to our advantage and allowed them to separate the space without constraining it. The pipes going through the middle of the kitchen were a particularly big obstacle at first, but by wrapping them in wooden panels and building a kitchen island around them we turned this area into the star of the project. A lot of guest entertaining and Sunday mornings will be met there.
The space was inspired by Scandinavian design and its coziness and simplicity, which is why we used a lot of natural wood and calm neutral colors. All of the built-in furniture we created specifically for this project.
